THE WRITER IN THE STORY AND OTHER FIGURATIONS. ( WITH CD OF RADIO 3S TWENTY MINUTE BROADCAST)

"Figurations is the work of Ted Richer, an American writer and performer of miniature Beckettian monologues and dialogues, each lasting only a minute or two. They twist and turn around a few words or phrases of love, love denied or lost, driving the words deeper and deeper into the mind. These are inner voices made audible but also bearable by ritual and permutation ... They need such obsessive forms because they grow out of a 'burning sense of shame and of humilitation' as Christopher Ricks put it. In pain they make art. And that begins to help." - David Sheldon, The Sunday Telegraph

Ted Richer is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop and a Founding Faculty Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. He has published in numerous journals, including AGNI, Literary Imagination, Harvard Review, James Joyce Quarterly, Leviathan, New York Quarterly, Free Inquiry, The Poetry Porch, Poetry Northeast, Clarion, and Daedalus. Richer was subject of a BBC Radio 3 presentation by Christopher Ricks on Twenty Minutes.
