First edition (later editions were identified as such on the copyright page). Large 4to half black cloth and color pictorial paper-covered boards. Illustrated throughout with vignette color and b/w images from the movie, including the two-page folding half-sheet image of Monstro. This is the Random House version that was prepared for release with the 1940 movie. A fine copy in a very good dust jacket which has a 3-inch chip at the upper spine and a small chip at the lower spine tip. Uncommon in any kind of presentable jacket. Munsey p. 181.
