Seneca Ray Stoddard was one of America's foremost 19th century regional photographers. Over three decades, Stoddard took ten thousand images in the Adirondack region of New York, including more than 700 photos of Lake George, the "Queen of American Lakes." "Water & Light" includes an introductory essay by historian and author Joseph A. Cutshall-King, in which he explores Stoddard's genius and discusses why he is included among the great artists of the late 19th century. The book's 150 photographs, reproduced in duo-tone, demonstrates the photographer's mastery of his art form; also included are examples of Stoddard's painting, writing and cartography. Endnotes.
