Three volumes; size of the bindings: 4 1/8 inches x 7 7/8 in. Volume 1: half-title; title-page. [4]pp., [1]-358 pp., no imprint leaf present. Volume 2: half-title; title-page. [4]pp., [1]-370pp. final imprint leaf present. Volume 3: half-title; title-page. [4]pp., [1]-371pp. imprint present at bottom of p. 371. With the first issue point: "our" for "your" in the first line of text of p.136 in Volume 2. Todd & Bowden first issue variant press figures (from pp. 310-311) Variant press figures present in this copy: Volume 2: p. 26 lacks figure 7, p. 136 l. 1 has "our" for "your" found in all copies of 1st ed. Volume 3: p. 153 G2 is printed: 2G, p. 323 is printed: 323 not misnumbered 32. Bound in full, dark brown morocco leather by Zaehnsdorf, with their gilt stamp on the lower front inner turn-in, five raised bands on the spine, with gilt titling, double-line borders, and richly gilt inner dentelles, green watered silk endpapers, top-edge gilt. The outer hinges show light wear; the upper spine end of Vol. III shows a small chip to the leather. The lower cover corners of Vols. I and II show wear, as does the upper back cover corner of Vol. III. Some pages show age-related tanning. With the bookplates of Cleveland, Ohio based book collector, William G. Mather (1857-1951), on the reverse of the front free endpapers. "Waverley" was extremely popular when first published; it is said that the first issue of one thousand copies sold out in a few days.
