In 1914, Arthur Ransome began covering the war on the Eastern Front for The Daily News, and in 1917 he also covered the Russian Revolutions, by when he had become close to the Russian leadership, including Lenin and Trotsky. His intimate knowledge of the Bolsheviks was of interest to British Secret Intelligence, to whom Ransome provided useful information, albeit that MI5 began to suspect his sympathies lay with Russia. The six weeks of Ransome's title refer to the period in early 1919 when he was ferrying peace terms from and to Estonia and Russia at the end of Estonia's War of Independence. Ransome is of course best known for his Swallows and Amazons series, but this is a fascinating factual account of his activities at the end of the First World War. A very rare book, too, and in very decent condition given its fragility.
