Hardcover in orange paper-covered boards lettered in black over buff buckram cloth spine. 180 pp. A tight example, light staining to the cloth portion of the binding and some offsetting about the edges of the endpapers, pages embrowned which is both inevitable and somewhat remarkable as cheap paper was used descpite the fact that a top publisher (Simon & Schuster) issued it. In price clipped dust jacket, near fine, touch of toning to the spine strip and a modest bit of wear at the foot of the spine. Set in the small town of Hard Times in the barren West at the close of the 19th century, a tale that revolves around a badman who destroys the town in one day, cruelly and casually and the mayor whose helpful nature impels him to rebuild it.
