The very scarce first edition of Captain Lewis Butler's two volume study of the Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesley's, operations in the Peninsula War of the early nineteenth century, between the years 1808 and 1814.Illustrated with thirteen maps to volume I, and fourteen to volume II, many of which are folding. Collated, complete.Providing a detailed account of Wellington's movements in this stage of the Napoleonic wars in chronological order, this work recounts, in the words of the author, 'the story of the most successful campaigns ever waged by the British Army'.With volume II previously held by the 'Officers' Mess Library of the British Army of the Rhine', with their stamp to the front free endpaper, and a stamp reading 'Supplied for the Public Service' to the title page.
