First American edition, published in England as *Subsoil*. Very light wear to the bottom of the boards, a fine copy in an attractive, about very good dustwrapper with a chip at the crown, and a number of very faint dampstains on the front panel. Final novel of a critically acclaimed trilogy that included *The Catfish* and *The Wondrous Wife*. Blurbs from, among others, James Whitcomb Riley and Hildegarde Hawthorne.
