What Do Mormons Believe? (RARE 2-book ALTERED First Printing Set)

Extremely rare two-book set: (1) UNALTERED First state of 1st printing + (2) Second ALTERED state, REPRINTED, but still identified as the 1st printing [BOTH copies with number lines ending in "1"] + Comparison Chart. Shortly after publication, changes were made to at least 5 pages of the book, then reprinted, yet still identified as the 1st printing. BYU Special Collections lists the true first as a variant edition. The most substantial changes occur on pages 76, 79, 88, 97, & 102. As an example, one of the changes was to Lee's discussion of reconciling personal views on politics with contrary views expressed by church leaders. Among other alterations, Lee in the unaltered text (1) wrote that "if I cannot reconcile their [General Authorities'] statements on government and politics with my own views, then I will adhere to my own views." This was completely changed in the altered 1st printing (2) to read: "Many members will then make the issues a matter of prayer and study. In short, there is a general attitude of deference toward Church leaders' views." The unaltered (FIRST STATE) is scarce, but copies are available. The ALTERED (Second State) of the FIRST PRINTING [altered but still carrying the FULL numbering ending in "1", as if it were the first issue of the book] is extremely scarce and almost certainly printed in very few copies. [NOTE: The unaltered FIRST STATE is not of much use without the SECOND STATE for comparison (along with a Comparison Chart included with the books). Owning BOTH 1st printings offers a unique opportunity to document Deseret Book's reprinting of altered text WITHOUT identifying the altered reprint as a 2nd edition or EVEN as a 2nd printing.] The book went on to have at least eight additional printings, all indicated on the copyright page.
