First Edition, 8vo, orange and black cloth, 274 pp., numerous text illustrations, lacks dust jacket, front end pages are darkened (possibly in part from binding glue bleeding through, and newspaper articles that had been inserted between those pages); obituary from New York Times inserted. INSCRIBED & SIGNED ?To E. Robert Stevenson, supplementing recent medals, awards, citations and bad horse tips/Hi Phillips. April 30, 1941.? Stevenson was the Editor of the Waterbury American newspaper in Connecticut. The award and medal Phillips refers to is the Pulitzer Prize recently granted to the newspaper for a local corruption scandal. Also included are typed and signed three personal letters from Phillips to Stevenson. On a side note, Stevenson was also good friends with Sinclair Lewis dating back to their days at Yale (search "Harry Sinclair Lewis" in Abebooks for those papers).---
Phillips was at first a journalist and soon became a nationally known humor columnist He was a resident of Gulf Street, Milford, Connecticut for the last 25 years of his life and one of the letters invites Stevenson to visit him.
