Stab-stitched pamphlet bound into recent buckram, gilt-stamped title to spine. Very light toning to text, internally clean. $150. * First edition. This is the standard contemporary account of Layer's trial, which resulted from his leadership during Jacobite Rebellion of 1722. Also known as the Atterbury Plot, this was the second attempt to return James II to the thrones of England and Scotland. The trial ended with the execution of Layer and most of his colleagues.
