Part of Arnold Bennett's Five Towns novels, it is a powerful read with a strong social message. It discusses divorce at the time, with detailed court proceedings, and comments on the way the act of divorce was seen and treated.Arnold Bennett was a prolific English author, best known for his novel writing. His Five Towns novels are set in a fictionalised version of the Potteries.
