About this Item
This book was quite impactful upon its initial release. Comedian Jerry Clower had an entire routine focused on the "meme" of the time which resulted from this book's title. "Why Johnny Can't Read," Clower repeated, then explained why humorously. So this is an important book. This is a first edition, the print run is unknown. The information available in the book itself advertises 1955, and nothing later. Online research indicates this was the book's publication year. The book's appearance matches such an age, as does its printing and associated style. There is nothing to indicate which print run this belongs to, but it does appear to be of the first run. The dust jacket says $3.95 on the top left flap, which would be consistent with a hardback of an educational variety in the era. In terms of condition, this copy has a rip on the rear dust jacket, and the top portion of the copyright page has been ripped out; however, no relevant information appears to have been affected. The rest of the book is in fine condition. There are no underlined pages or passages, there are no notes in any margins, all pages sit securely in the binding. On exterior top pages, when the book is closed, there is a very mild discoloration about a quarter of an inch in surface area. At the rear of the book are a number of grammatical diagrams and educational resources. A classic resource for generations of educators. 222 Numbered Pages. Seller Inventory # ABE-1706208410506
