The pieces are excerpted from the "Atlantic Monthly, "The New Republic," "The Outlook," "Boy's Life" and "The Argonaut," among other magazines. The book excerpts come from " Bonanza Inn" and his best-selling history about the advent of California's Central Pacific Railroad ,"The Big Four."
