About this Item

Description:

A sturdy but worn copy with some flecking to the black cloth of the binding; soiling to the boards which feature the title in bright gilt lettering. The gilt lettering on the spine has been obliterated. Internally very clean and tight except for a touch of occasional foxing. From the library of Ted Shane, author and humorist, written on the front endpaper in ink after his stroke. Note: Ted Shane, author and humorist was my maternal grandmother s second husband. He and Margaret Woodward Boyd (an author in her own right) wrote for Travel Magazine and Ted created crossword puzzles for JUDGE magazine as well as writing a bar guide with VIP. A serviceable copy of this uncommon volume. This is the final and fourth non-fiction book of Charles Fort known for writing about the paranormal. Fort, with panache touches upon strange coincidences, teleportation, witchcraft, vanishing people, and spontaneous human combustion. "Charles Hoy Fort (August 6, 1874 May 3, 1932) was an American writer and researcher who specialized in anomalous phenomena. The terms "Fortean" and "Forteana" are sometimes used to characterize various such phenomena. Fort's books sold well and are still in print. His work continues to inspire admirers, who refer to themselves as "Forteans", and has influenced some aspects of science fiction.[1]Fort's collections of scientific anomalies, including The Book of the Damned (1919), influenced numerous science-fiction writers with their skepticism and as sources of ideas. "Fortean" phenomena are events which seem to challenge the boundaries of accepted scientific knowledge, and the Fortean Times (founded as The News in 1973 and renamed in 1976) investigates such phenomena." (Wikipedia) Stated "First Edition" on the copyright page with 1932. No subsequent printings listed. Seller Inventory # 1328
