A rare copy of the true first edition (issued at 7/6d) in the brown cloth superior binding (on better-quality paper than the subsequent 2/6d cheap edition reprints), lettered in gilt, with lovely crisp illustrations (please see images), this one I would suggest requires re-binding or a professional repair as the spine cover is missing, and one letter on the upper board has been inked, with outer corner bumps/rubs, there is a little staining on the front pastedown corner, the front inner hinge is exposed at the half-title, otherwise the pages are clean, with a few minor marks, needs some loving attention.
