This book is collection of sketches, in this use sketches meaning written letters and articles, about the revolutionary war specifically in North Carolina leading up to the battle of York. The original author William R. Davie was a patriot who was very prominent and lead troops at the start of the war then later served directly under Army command Nathanael Greene and was even a constitutional framer. All this to say he knew his stuff. He wrote these sketches years after the war to set things straight as he put it, that those fellow patriots were getting the history wrong in the area in which he himself fought.
