The lifestyle of the inhabitants of the Royal Manorial Island of Portland (Isle of Portland), off the southern coast of England, remained unchanged for centuries until the early nineteenth century. People whose ancestors lived on the island for hundreds of years broke with tradition and migrated; many of them came to Australia and New Zealand. This book is a history and record of these families.
