The Winner was first performed on February 17, 1954 at The Playhouse Theatre in New York City and was directed by Rice. The set designer and the full cast of that production are listed in the preface. The Winner is about a young lady who allows a middle-aged millionaire to will her his fortune, after which he immediately keels over from a heart attack, and therewith ensues the legal comedy. As Elmer Rice was a lawyer prior to his becoming a playwright, he deftly handles the courtroom scene. Seller Inventory # 010621
