Add to basketTHE WINNING OF THE SUDAN BY PIERRE CRABITES 1934 FOLD-OUT MAP. Here is a book which reminds me that no one is "winning" in the Sudan, not in the North or in South Sudan, these days, particularly in the South where tribal warfare seems endless and deadly. Not that there were better times when this book was written but we were all hopeful after the 2005 Peace Accord between North and South. For your consideration, I am pleased to be able to offer a very nice copy of a vintage book: "The Winning of the Sudan," by Pierre Crabites. This medium-sized hard cover book (5 ¾ x 8 ¾ inches, 280 pages) was published by George Routledge and Sons, Ltd. of London, dated 1934 and it appears to be a First Edition. There is a large fold-out map of the Sudan tipped-in at the outset of the book. The book is bound in bright red cloth boards with gilt titles on the spine. There is an unsigned visitor card "with the Author s compliments" laid-in. Condition: This book is in remarkably good (very good) condition considering its age and the condition of the other copies seen online which have not fared so well. The hard covers are a bit dust dulled, very slightly darkened along the edges and have some bumping to the corners and spine tips, the top one with some minor splits developing (please see the photo). There are some tiny numbers on the rear board and a speck of soiling along its lower edge. The fold-out map is clean and bright with just a tiny tear starting near the point of attachment to the binding. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages unblemished, clean and bright, from cover to cover. Both hinges are fully intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
