Letters home from a Wisconsin schoolteacher who volunteered for infantry duty in 1961; he rose to the rank of lieutenant, seeing service at Shiloh, Corinth, Vicksburg, on the Red River, in Missouri, at Nashville & Mobile, confined for a short time as a POW, and finally serving with occupation forces in Alabama before his mustering out and return to Wisconsin.
