First Edition (first printing). 8vo. xvii, 189pp. Yellow cloth lettered in black at the spine. Some light uneven toning to the cloth at the upper and lower boards, and a little browning to the backstrip ends where the dust wrapper is defective. A very good copy, particularly crisp internally, in price clipped pictorial dust wrapper which is a little toned and rubbed with several small areas of loss from the upper edge and from one or two other extremities. Inked gift inscription to the front free endpaper from the poet and publisher James [Price] and his wife and first daughter. Twenty-three Chekhov stories, all hitherto untranslated into English.
