illustrated frontispiece + iv (inc title page) + 267 page (printer has not used pages 103/4), and includes many line engravings within the text & a number of single sided full pages. Condition; Quarter leather and mottled hard back binding in good condition with some rubbing, embossed gilt title to spine. Contents mostly Very good, clean & tight copy, first endpage replaced with a glued in page for the Science and art dept of the committee of Council on Education, Queen?s Price awarded to Francis A Wells May 1876 with pencil inscription opposite. otherwise just a number of minor marks. This title page is not dated, but believe it is the 1st English edition of 1870. Very rare tomb , only American copies by Charles Scribner's & Co., New York, . At time of listing found no other copy by this publisher for sale.
