An inch-and-half tear to the bottom of the thin paper-guard for the frontispiece. A three-inch closed tear to page 201. Minor foxing, a few smudges. An inch closed tear to full-page illustration opposite page 79. No date given (ca 1922). 24 illustrations. Arthur Rackham illustrated. First thus. 16 tipped-in color plates, 8 full-page duotone and tritone illustration plates. Original red cloth, spine lettered gilt, cover lettered in blind and gilt, and gilt figures. Pictorial endpapers. Classical myths given a gothic or romantic spine for young readers by Hawthorne. 6 stories, each with an Introduction and Afterword.
