At the time Leigh Fermor was only 18, and set off on this expedition on the 8th December 1933 with only a few items of clothing, some letters of introduction, the 'Oxford Book of English Verse', and a Loeb volume of the 'Odes' of Horace. He finally arrived in Constantinople on the 1st January 1935.This volume follows 'A Time of Gifts', and is succeeded by 'The Broken Road'.Illustrated with one double-paged map. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, fine. Very light edge wear to the dust wrapper, with a few light marks, mostly to the rear wrap.
