First edition thus, 4 vols 8vo (8 3/4" x 5 3/4"), 4 engraved pictorial Works titles, 4 volume titles. Three quarter russet burgundy crushed levant niger morocco & red cloth by Root & Son with their pallet signature on verso of front free endpaper. Gilt paneled backs in six compartments, gilt lettered in the second & third, gilt corner ornament in the rest, gilt date at foot, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Near fine set with fore edges of cloth with fading. Extra engraved titles with some foxing. Binding strong & solid. Sheets clean & unmarked, complete. H9217. Seller Inventory # 9283
