The first edition, first impression of the second and third volumes in Osbert Sitwell's seriesEngland Reclaimed:Wrack at Tidesend(vol ii, 1952) and On the Continent : A Book of Inquilinics (vol iii, 1958).With the original pictorial unclipped dust wrappers. Dust wrapper for Wrack at Tidesendfeatures the illustrations of H. Cowdell.Osbert Sitwell was an English author, critic, and journalist and one of the three literary Sitwell siblings, the best known of whom is Edith Sitwell, who published the popular poetry collection Façade (1922). England Reclaimed was a three volume series of portait poetry produced by Osbert Sitwell which took inspiration from his observations of the interesting character types he encountered growing up in England. The first volume, which shares its name with the series as a whole, is comprised of eclogues, rustic, and pastoral poems. The latter two volumes are included here: Wrack at Tidesend, which examines the country town, and the final work, On the Continent, which considers the cosmopolitan life of the cities. Both in the original publisher's cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper and with Brodart covers. Externally, both lovely with slight fading to the spine and a touch towards Vol III's fore edge. Black top edge painting to both volumes. Marginal bumping to head and tail of Vol II's spine and extremities, and a minor defect to the tail of Vol III's spine at the front joint; this is a purely aesthetic fault. The odd very minor mark to both's boards. Both volumes have offsetting to the pastedowns and first and second free endpapers, heavier to Vol III. Light toning and spotting to each wrapper as well as to each wrapper's reverse, and some offsetting to the reverse of each wrapper's fly leaves; both of these are heavier to Vol II. The odd handling marks to both. A few minor closed tears to the front top and bottom edge of Vol II's wrapper and two archival tape repairs spanning these areas, finishing at the head and tail wrapper's spine. Some bumping to head and tail of wrappers' spines and their extremities. Internally, both volumes firmly bound with generally bright, clean pages. In each case, a touch of age toning and one or two spots limited to the text block's fore edge. Very Good.
