Perhaps the first merit of The Year Made Holy is to accept this situation of fact, and to make the most of it. The directive idea is simple: to exploit the riches of the variable texts of the Sunday and feast~day Masses, texts which are in fact the principal source of most Catholics' formation and meditation, but whose liturgical and devotional sense is often passed over unnoticed. In the form of liturgical homilies, Msgr. Premm explains the variable texts of all the Sundays and feast days in the ecclesiastical year. Already an outstanding success in Germany and in Ireland, his book is not only a surprising revelation of the diverse lines of thought reunited in each Mass but a constant reminder of the significant ebb and How of liturgical time and of our intimate relation to it.
