Many quires are unopened including all pages of ads. Dark red cloth covered boards with gilt-stamped lettering on spine. Upper external edges are gilt. Spine and extremities are lightly faded. A photo of Kipling was attached to the blank page between the FFEP and half-title. Faint pencil erasures on verso to the back free end-paper, else internally clean. Text block is very snug. Brown paper dust jacket with dark blue text and illustration on front panel. Dust jacket is a bit soiled in general, more so on spine, folds and edges which are also sunned. Head of jacket spine has several small chips and closed tears; small chips at tail of jacket spine. Price of 7/6 NET is on spine.
