Four Holocaust-era essays on the subject by Fineshriber and Schachtel, who argue that the two are incompatible, and by Levy and Polish, who argue the opposite position. All Jews have a common objective: to preserve Judaism and the Jewish People, but they differ in the means of achieving this goal. Both Zionists and non-Zionists agree that Palestine is a unique entity for all Jews and that Palestine must be rehabilitated as a place of refuge for the dispossessed Jews of Europe and for the Jews who wish to settle there. Zionists are committed to the establishment of an independent Jewish state. Non-Zionists are opposed to it on theoretical and practical grounds.
