At £35 it seemed over-priced, but its simple form was so pleasing, it called out 'buy me'. This purchase led to the first of many visits to Worcester and the Dyson Perrins Museum. The curator, Henry Sandon, became a close friend and introduced the Zorenskys to Tom Burn and his legendary collection at Rous Lench Court. Twenty five years later, they had assembled more than 1400 pieces, an amazing study collection covering every aspect of 18 century Worcester. Always keen to share their remarkable porcelain with others, the Zorenskys generously subsidised the publication of a definitive catalogue that taught and inspired a new generation of collectors. Their lavish book, written jointly by John Sandon and Simon Spero, was published in 1996 and received universal praise. As a result, the Zorensky Collection is now the most famous private collection of Worcester porcelain in the world. Bonhams have helped Jeanne and Milton to divide their collection evenly into three parts. This first sale represents an exceptional opportunity for collectors to bid for porcelain with a world-class provenance, and priced to suit every pocket. In the first auction, many lots sold well above expectations, reflecting both their rarity and the great strength of the market for fine Worcester porcelain. At the other extreme, however, almost 100 lots sold for just £300 or less. As with the first sale, this second auction includes a similar proportion of rare and special items. In addition, many other interesting pieces-all illustrated in one of the most important reference books-are estimated to sell for just £200. All collectors have an opportunity to bid for porcelain with a world-class provenance, and this is what makes the sale of the Zorensky Collection so exciting.
