Los privilegios de exclusividad que España mantenía sobre el comercio y la navegación en las Indias desde la época de su descubrimiento, y los ataques a los navíos contrabandistas ingleses en la zona, considerados como contrabandistas por las autoridades españolas, fueron considerados por Inglaterra como injustos y contrarios a su propia libertad comercial.No en Palau.
