First edition, 12mo (6.5" x 4.25"); pp. 96; text in three columns, with Jones' spelling on left, standard spelling in the middle, and definition at right; original printed boards, backed in black cloth, edge and corners rubbed, owner's signature on upper endpaper and scribbling on lower endpaper; good and sound. According to a 1913 issue of the Sunday Oregonian, Jones's system of Orthoepy had acquired "considerable fame" for his work in spelling reform, and had found popular adoption among Oregon schools and Chinese students of English. Considering he was still somewhat active into the 20th century there may be some truth to those claims, but we could find little more about him or his system beyond this single title. A Bible he had in the works does not appear in OCLC under his name, and of this Alphabet there are 11 copies in OCLC.
