13 vols from the library of the bookseller and crime writer George Sims as follows: catalogues B110, B115, B117, B119-3, B125-9. Al in wrappers. Staples a little rusty; cover of one catalogue slightly marked. Sir Basil Blackwell was born in his father's bookshop in Broad Street, Oxford, in 1889, and it is to his credit that, despite founding a publishing house in the family name, and expanding the new-book business exponentially, he remained loyal to the old-fashioned practice of doubling as a second-hand bookseller. A campaigning President of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association, he encouraged Blackwell's antiquarian department, which graduated from Ship Street, Oxford, to Fyfield Manor before returning to Holywell Street and then, in 2000 (the date of the last of these catalogues) to Sir Basil's birthplace in the Broad.
