Poor copy in the original full aniline calf. Raised bands with a red morocco gilt-blocked label. Spine compartments uniformly tooled in gilt Spine bands and panel edges rubbed and bumped as with age. Hinges starting. Text remains clear and without blemish. Physical description; 383 pp., only 3 plates. Approximately 8 ½ inches tall. Quarter leather binding with ¾ marbled boards, gilt titles, raised bands, gilt decoration, with engraved half-title, portrait frontispiece, and engraved plates by Philip Audinet. 'The Complete Angler' is Izaak Walton's best known work. It was edited and expanded by Walton for over a quarter of a century. The work is a celebration of fishing through prose and verse. The second part of this work is written by Walton's friend and fellow angler, Charles Cotton. This is the seventh edition of the work, and the first edition to be edited by Bagster. Bagster was the founder of the publishing firm 'Bagster and Sons'. He is noted for his polyglot bibles. With a frontispiece of Izaak Walton, Charles Cotton and Sir John Hawkins, engraved half-title and seventeen (17) engraved plates by Audinet, with 19 illustrations in the text. iv, 512pp. Approximately 8 ½ inches tall.
