Philadelphia, Ormrod & Conrad, 1796. In original publisher's wraps, signatures tied, pages uncut. Octavo, pp. 46, vignette tail piece.The work is complete. David Rittenhouse (1732-1796) was a most celebrated scientist in the American Colonies and later the New Republic. He was the second citizen of the United States, and one of the founding members of Benjamin Franklin's American Philosophical Society. In 1771 he built the finest mechanical model of the solar system produced in the colonies and the following year built the finest observatory constructed in the colonies. The eulogy for Rittenhouse was prepared and presented by Benjamin Rush (1746-1813), a Founding Father of the United States and signatory of the Declaration of Independence and attendee at the Continental Congress. Rush was a physician, educator and Universalist.
