First edition, 8vo, pp. [6], vii, [3], 383, [1]; folding frontispiece map, 4 plates; original red cloth stamped in gilt on upper cover and spine; dampstain along top edge causing some decolorization of the cloth, newspaper clippings tipped in at rear flyleaf; all else good and sound. Early ownership signature and stamp of Fred W. Harding, with his many underlinings and annotations in pencil throughout. Also with a Harvard pressure stamp showing its release. Harding (1878-1975) was a Baptist missionary to Garo Mission in Assam, India. He was born in Leeds, England and received his BA (1904) and DD (1933) from Colgate University. He graduated from the Hamilton Theological Seminary in 1907 and was ordained a Baptist minister on September 9, 1907. Shortly thereafter he departed on a posting to Tura, Assam, India, with the Garo mission. (See library[.]syracuse[.]edu.). A detailed history beginning with the prehistoric and traditional rulers down to the time of British rule and the coming of the tea industry. This first edition is uncommon.
