Add to basketTHIS BOOK IS IN ITALIAN. 144 pages, con testimonianze di amici stranieri del poeta raccolte a cura di Leone Piccioni e uno scritto introduttivo di Jean Paulhan. The first 41 pages have poems, and from p. 45 to the end are the supplementary essays and short essays or notes from 50-some of the author's foreign friends including Rene Char, John Dos Passos, T.S. Eliot, Marianne Moore, Ezra Pound, Jules Supervielle, Allen Tate. Trade paperback-sized (16 x 23 cm), white card wraps with white paper (red and black lettering) French-fold DJ and glassine outer jacket similarly folded. There is little wear to the wraps or DJ, while the outer layer has some tears along the folds and a tear with 5 cm wide hole in the front panel. Some brown foxing spots to the glassine as well as a 2 cm. blue ink mark on front panel; foxing to edges of the text block. Pages bright and unmarked. Laid in are a gift message from Maria Vittoria Sebastiani (later a professor of literature), evidently to the book's owner - Prof. Warner Berthoff then of Bryn Mawr College; also, a clipping from the TLS of 25 Sept. 1970 (now folded within white paper to prevent stains to the book), being an essay covering four books by or about Ungaretti, two of them by Leone Piccioni who compiled the present volume.
