About this Item
Various locations, quarto and octavo, variously paged (up to 146 p.) ***CONTENT: This collection was deaccessioned from the Peabody Museum, Yale University in 1995 (I can provide ownership documentation). Most of the reports are written in French or German and were sent to Marsh by prominent 19th century European geologists and paleontologists. Some offprints include plates or maps. Topics are typically geologic or paleontologic. Noteworthy authors include: Bodenbender, Boehm, Burmeister, Coppi, Dames, DeMargerie, E. Dupont, Geinetz, Gosselet, Haidinger, Hébert, Hoernes, F.W. Hutton, von Koenen, Otto Meyer, Neumayr, Noetling, J. Prestwich, Roemer, Suess, Trybom, H.P. Woodward, and others. No separates herein were written by Marsh. Marsh's characteristic "O.C. Marsh /Yale College" stamp is found in the top left corner of many offprints. Other reports bear presentation inscriptions. Marsh is best known for his studies of dinosaurs and other vertebrates from the American West, and for his infamous feud with E.D. Cope. ***CONDITION: These separates are complete and are in Good to Fine condition, though mostly Very Good. All are in the original wrappers or self-wraps. Some wraps are mildly chipped or have small splits. The interiors of most separates are fresh, clean, and bright; some show mild foxing/age toning. All reports show Peabody Museum ownership markings. All separates are housed in archival plastic sleeves, open at the top. Domestic and international shipping will be extra for this collection, but only at my cost.
