Synopsis

Algernon est une souris de laboratoire, Charlie Gordon un simplet employ� aux m�diocres besognes. Tous deux vont emprunter, gr�ce � une d�couverte du docteur Strauss et du professeur Nemur, le chemin vers l'intelligence.

Suivi par la psychologue Alice Kinnian dont il tombe rapidement amoureux, Charlie va faire de grands progr�s sur le plan intellectuel. Ainsi, au terme du troisi�me mois de traitement, il consigne dans son journal, originellement intitul� CONTE RANDU :

J'ai t�l�phon� � Landsdoff au New Institute for Advanced Study, au sujet de l'utilisation des paires d'ions produites par effet photo-nucl�aire, pour des recherches exploratoires en biophysique.

La progression est fulgurante. Mais le plus dur est � venir, et la d�couverte du monde qui l'entoure sera sans concession.
Puis soudain le r�ve s'effondre, Algernon d�cline et finit par mourir.
A rapprocher de Quotient intellectuel � vendre de John Boyd, cette fable �mouvante conviendra autant aux jeunes lecteurs avides de d�couvertes qu'aux amateurs qui seraient pass�s � c�t� de ce livre aujourd'hui classique.
