Das goldene Labyrinth

Truth or Dare is a dynamic and at times disturbing novel by Celia Rees--an author who has a particular talent for grasping on to the unknown and developing characters and plots which work together so superbly that the reader finds himself lost in a world that once seemed unbelievable but suddenly becomes all too real. In Truth or Dare , Josh finds himself lost in the centre of a family crisis when he is whisked away to stay at his dying grandmother's house for the summer. With a combination of haunting and worry driving him to find something to occupy his time and his mind, he begins to delve into his own family history and discovers that the man who, had he lived, would have been his Uncle Patrick, died in mysterious circumstances as a teenager. With his family refusing to talk about it, and only local gossip and an abandoned room filled with strange possessions that once belonged to Patrick, he starts to peel back the layers of his family's life until he is faces with the ultimate, shocking, truth. Truth or Dare is a thoroughly gripping novel which uses an intriguing device to unfurl the story--Josh himself is seen digging into the past, but his mother, Joanna, looks back on the her youth and for the first time confronts the reality of what happened to her family through the pages of her journal. A fascinating book that is fast-paced and thrilling to the core, Truth or Dare is truly unforgettable. Age 11 and over. -- Susan Harrison
