The history of Nevada (Volume I)

From sagebrush basins to silver-struck streets, Nevada's past is stranger, harder, and more human than the myths. Nevada did not arrive quietly. In Volume I of The History of Nevada, Sam P. Davis gathers a richly detailed regional history book of the Great Basin region, tracing the Nevada territorial era as scattered trails, forts, and settlements tightened into a society. Davis writes with the steadiness of a witness, balancing geography, economy, and public life so the desert is never just backdrop. Expect clear-eyed coverage of mining camps and boomtowns, the pressures and promise behind Comstock Lode history, and the civic arguments that shaped statehood and early politics. Read straight through or sampled for place-names, Volume I lays firm ground for the story ahead. Read as a local history volume or consulted as a western history reference, it offers names, places, and timelines valued by readers pursuing Nevada genealogy research, while keeping the narrative pace that draws in anyone curious about the American West frontier history. Long treated as a cornerstone account of 19th century Nevada, Davis's work preserves contemporary perspectives and early historical memory that later summaries often flatten. It also belongs on the shelf of classic literature collectors building a complete state history collection: a primary-minded chronicle with the authority and texture of its era. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike.
