Inscribed by Mac Duffee "Congratulations upon the passing of your examination." With owner's stamp of Rodney T. Hood on upper paste down. Mac Duffee taught at the University of Wisconsin for most of his career, and advised 30 Ph.D. students. Laid in is an offprint of Mac Duffee's "Algebra's debt to Hamilton," reprinted from Scripta Mathematica Vol. X.
