From the Author
I have a background in design and have gradually transitioned over time to becoming a developer. I really struggled to learn JavaScript, so when Packt Publishing approached me and asked me to write a book on jQuery just for designers, I jumped at the chance. I wanted to create the book I wish I'd had when I was trying to learn.
So many jQuery and JavaScript books assume a background in coding and it can be really tough as a designer to learn all the right words and concepts while also trying to learn the language. I tried to make learning a bit of code fun and interesting and completely non-scary.
In association with this book, I've also created a weekly screencast called Designers Learning jQuery that provides a quick weekly lesson on jQuery aimed at designers, just like this book. Please check it out to get a feel for my teaching style and for some helpful extra tips on jQuery and JavaScript!
If you're already a programmer or looking to become a hard-core coder, then this book isn't for you. It's aimed at designers or anyone else who's never coded before. It's a gentle introduction that will get you up and running in very short order and able to create some nice effects on your sites - impress your clients, increase your income, and expand your skill set.
