Six volumes of the ten-volume edition of Pliny the Elder's magisterial work, Natural History. Another fine addition to the Loeb Classical Library series, this being comprised of volume #s 330, 362, 370, 371, 391, and 392, each volume number being blind-stamped to rear cover bottoms near spine feet. English Translations by H. Rackham and W.H.S. Jones. Perfectly serviceable, structurally sound hardcover copies, bound in red cloth over boards, sharp and distinct lettering to spines, gilt abbreviated logo (LCL) stamped to front covers, light rubbing to, slight sunning of spines, bumping to spine heads and feet, discoloration of one volume's rear panel, else clean and sturdy, still bright of interior, stands easily on the shelf. From the library of a noted Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome scholar, Peter Morris Green, who just recently passed at age 99. Duodecimo format as per Loeb Classical Library standards. The author, Pliny the Elder, was an enormously influential scholar and writer, and these works were encyclopedic in scope and readability. He is said to have published plentiful more works, but this is the only one to have survived to this day. His Wikipedia entry notes that he published the first 10 Libri in A.D. 77, but when he perished at the time of the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D. 79, he hadn't completed his work. Pliny the Younger, his nephew, is said to have published the remainder. The 37 books of the ten volumes cover all manner of topics and disciplines, not just "natural history" as understood popularly, but also covering "astronomy, mathematics, geography, ethnography, anthropology, human physiology, zoology, botany, agriculture, horticulture, pharmacology, mining, mineralogy, sculpture, art, and precious stones" (Wikipedia).Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
