Produced in 1948, Blondel la Rougery s map is a wonderful example of pictorial cartography.The Greater Antilles (Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Puerto Rico) take up the center of the map, with the Lesser Antilles off to the right. The map highlights important cities of the region like Havana, Kingston, Port-au-Prince, and San Juan. Around the print are vignettes of historical scenes and figures. The upper right hand corner shows Pierre Belain d Esnambuc s 1635 establishment of the colony of St Pierre, on the island of Martinique. Also included are portraits of Christopher Colombus, Faustin Soulouque, Toussaint Louverture the most prominent leader of the Haitian Revolution and Daniel Monbars, a violent French pirate known as Monbars the Exterminator.The map is in full color with beautiful detail and finely produced illustrations. Most of our material is shipped rolled in a sturdy tube that is then packed in a rectangular box. Any items shipped flat will be reinforced to prevent being bent during shipping. We typically ship via UPS ground for domestic buyers (within the United States) and either UPS, DHL, or USPS International Priority for shipments outside of the United States.
