[Descripción en español a continuación] Coloured map of the central coast of Chile, published in Amsterdam in 1640 by Joannes Jansson (1588-1664), a Dutch cartographer and rival of the Blaeu family, who expanded the Mercator-Hondius Atlas and published his own Atlas Novus and Atlas Maior. The coast runs from south (right) to north (left), with localities such as Castro, on Chiloé Island, Valdivia, Arauco, Concepción and 'Mapocho' (Santiago de Chile). In the sea, at the bottom, are two brigantines flying the Dutch flag and fantastical creatures. The relief shows the Andes range richly illustrated and several rivers, with two volcanoes off Villarrica. The title and scale occupy the upper corners, with a coloured cartouche.
