Black printed map with text to verso 38 x 27cm. Drawn by Survey Directorate HQ, Palestine and Trans Jordan, printed by 13 Field Survey Company, Royal Engineers, June 1946, and reprinted by Sarafand Section, 512 Field Survey Company, Royal Engineers, August 1946. The printer's code states 10,000 copies were printed in August 1946. This dates just weeks after the large scale raid on the Jewish Agency and other locations in which arms were seized (Operation Agatha, 28 June 1946). The text is not credited, but is an updated version of the "Dos and Don'ts" for military personnel prepared by the Town Major's Office in the German Colony in a 1944 edition. Good or better, foxed, and slightly irregularly folded. The map shows Jerusalem bounded by the Old City (NE), Records Office (NW), and Allenby Barracks and Government House (S), with the notice: "Bounds - The Old City is 'Out of Bounds' from Dusk till Dawn. Canteens & Hostels in the Old City are 'In Bounds' at all times". Many features are named including hotels, cafes and restaurants, the Jewish Agency, police and military installations (NAAFI (Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes) sites, military courts, detention and other barracks, messes, Survey Map and Stationery Depots, guarded car parks etc), clubs, religious, recreation and culture, hospitals, Medical Inspection (M.I.) Room, banks, bus, railway, etc. The verso provides updated information "for the guidance of ALL MEMBERS of the Forces visiting Jerusalem" including reporting in; arms and ammunition; accommodation; valuables; WO's and Sgts Club; EFI facilities; out of bounds notice; M.I. Room; bounds, prices, photographs; parcels; taxi fares; guides etc.
