B/w photo map 19x10cm mounted on paper 31x14 with newspaper clipping and publisher's ink stamp to the back, dated 3 Aug 1990. Map fine with some creasing to the mount. Dated the day after the start of Operation Desert Shield (2 Aug 1990 - 17 Jan 1991), this map zeros in on 3 locations around Kuwait City, including the Shatt al-Arab waterway ("blocked since war with Iran"), Bubyan Island ("Iraq wants control of Kuwaiti islands to safeguard route to Gulf"), and the oil pipeline ("Now Iraq controls Kuwait, it can use its oil outlets"). An inset shows pipelines through Saudi Arabia and Turkey. The clipping to the back reads "As Iraq struck south to secure a safe outlet to the Gulf, Turkey threatened to cut its pipeline in the north". Seller Inventory # 4764
