Highway Map and Guide of California and Nevada

This is a compact guide for traveling the roads of California and Nevada. California has a good number of paved roads. The map was made in 1930 and this reflected the mobile society of LAs Angeles and outlying cities as far as the San Francisco area. The map was easy to use. Mid-West Map Company was based out of Aurora,MO. Aurora was a mining town with lead and zinc being extracted. This would make it unique for a map company that could use the mining engineers to make maps. The town is located in southwest Missouri. They were able to pump out a considerable quantity of maps for distribution throughout the United States. This map of CA and NV fits the bill for the motorists easy use. It was easy to open and close and fit well into storage. According to the Western Association of Map Libraries, there is a guide to dating the company's maps. It is supplied by Angie Cope, Cartographic Materials Catalog Librarian, American Geographical Society. In that entry it is shown that the company was in business with maps issued from 1926-34. It is most likely the Depression was responsible for the firm no longer issuing maps after 1934. Very good for its age and purpose with few tears expertly repaired with archival mending tape.…
